The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is responsible for planning, building, and maintaining the Sheikh Zayed Road. Roads and major highways are government properties.
Sheikh Zayed Road in the UAE was constructed under the direction of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the UAE, and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The project commenced in 1971 and was completed in 1980. The road was named in honor of Sheikh Zayed.
SZR or E11 is the most prominent highway of the UAE and joins the two largest UAE cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
