Palm Jumeirah, developed by Nakheel Properties, was constructed using a process known as land reclamation, where sand and rock were dredged from the seabed and piled up to form the island`s unique shape. A crescent-shaped breakwater was built around it to protect the island from the Arabian Gulf`s powerful waves.
